Local knowledge
Vienna is a close-knit town centered on Maple Avenue and Church Street, crossed by the W&OD Trail and bordered by Tysons and Wolf Trap. What makes it technically interesting is that two very different kinds of house now sit side by side on the same street.
The established older homes have the constraints of their era: solid interior walls, no data wiring, and electrical layouts that predate the idea of a home office. The new rebuilds going up between them are large, often with three finished levels, and are frequently sold with basic builder-grade networking that does not match the size of the house. Neighbors can have opposite problems and the same complaint.
Vienna also has an unusually high proportion of people who either work from home or commute a short distance into Tysons and work hybrid. That makes the home office the center of gravity. The requests that come up most are a reliable wired connection at the desk, coverage that holds up in a converted attic or basement office, and a setup where a work laptop and the family’s devices are not fighting each other for the same bandwidth at 2pm.
Because the lots are relatively compact, outdoor and outbuilding coverage is less of an issue here than in Clifton or Fairfax Station. The work concentrates inside, and on making older houses behave like modern ones without rewiring them.
