Local knowledge
Burke is an established Fairfax County suburb built around Burke Lake Park, the Burke Centre community and the VRE station that carries commuters toward the city. Most of the housing dates from the 1970s and 1980s, and that single fact explains the majority of technology calls from this area.
Homes from that era were wired for a telephone and a television aerial. There is no Ethernet in the walls, the coax runs to one or two rooms that made sense forty years ago, and the floor plans favor separated rooms over open space. Add a brick fireplace or a plaster wall and a modern router is being asked to do something it physically cannot. People reasonably conclude their internet is slow, when the connection arriving at the house is fine and the problem is everything after it.
The work here is usually about modernizing without tearing into walls. Powerline and MoCA adapters can turn existing electrical or coax runs into usable network links. A mesh system placed with some thought, rather than wherever there happens to be an outlet, covers a split-level far better than people expect. Where a wire genuinely is the right answer, it can often be run along baseboards or through a basement ceiling without damage.
The other common Burke situation is a household with several people working and learning from home at once, on equipment bought at different times for different reasons. Getting those devices onto the network sensibly, and backed up, tends to matter more than any single upgrade.
